Baldur's Gate is a role-playing video game (RPG) developed by BioWare and released in 1998 by Interplay Entertainment.
The game is set in the mysterious Forgotten Realms and follows the protagonist along the Sword Coast region, which lies on the west coast of the continent Faerûn.
The title received critical industry praise and was credited for almost single-handedly helping to revitalize the computer role-playing game (CRPG) genre.
And now Baldur's Gate is set to make a comeback on September 18, with a $20 Enhanced Edition for Windows.
Running on an upgraded and improved version of the Infinity Engine, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition includes the entire Baldur's Gate adventure, the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack, and never before seen content including a new adventure (The Black Pits), along with three new party members: The Calishite Monk Rasaad yn Bashir, Neera the Wild Mage, and Dorn Il-Khan, the evil blackguard.
The enhanced edition also offers a new collection of player character voice sets, native support for high resolution widescreen displays, over 400 improvements to the original game and improved multiplayer support - with connectivity between all platforms.
It should be noted that Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition for Windows will be available as a direct download from Beamdog, with no client install necessary. Pre-purchasing will allow you to preload the game, so you can access it immediately after release.
An enhanced edition of Baldur’s Gate will also be released for the Apple iPad and Mac OS X in September. An Android version is planned for tablets, with a roll out date TBA.
