Horror fun with Metallica’s Kirk Hammett

The late fifties was the dawn of what was later termed the "monster kid" generation.

Future genre kings like Stephen King, Gremlins director Joe Dante, and make-up master Rick Baker, were coming of age when the classic Universal horror films were first being shown on television, and Famous Monsters magazine was the must-read journal for young horror fans everywhere.

Horror fun with Metallica’s Kirk HammettAlthough Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett came a little after the original monster kids, he’s absolutely a true monster kid at heart, and he’s now publishing a book that showcases his horror collection, Too Much Horror Business – The Kirk Hammett Collection, a coffee table gift book which will be published in October by Abrams Images.

As Blabbermouth tells us, the book will be 228 pages long, and includes over 300 photos of Kirk’s collection, which I’m dying to see myself. Many of us geeks have the dream of one day hitting it big, and having an open checkbook for all the toys, posters, and comic books we want, a dream Kirk absolutely fulfilled.

As Hammett told Guitar World, "it’s a book about vintage tour and movie posters, vintage monster toys and artwork. It’s basically all the stuff I’ve managed to amass over the last 30 years or so. I have such a huge collection and I just thought now was the right time to share it with everyone."

He added, "This is my gift to all the other horror nerds out there who are just like me. It’s been made with great love for all the many characters and movies which guided me through childhood, into adulthood and which still keep me on track today."

You can pre-order the book at Metallica.com for $29.99 , and Kirk will also be launching his own collectible toy line under the name Kirk Von Hammett, or you can check them out at www.kvhtoys.com.
