Elder Scrolls Online trailer is here

Bethesda Softworks and Zenimax Studios have posted the first teaser trailer for the Elder Scrolls Online which will be going live in 2013 as an immersive MMOG.

The Elder Scrolls, which commands an enormous cult following due to each game’s incredibly vast environments, unparalleled storytelling, and addicting in-world mechanics, has remained a single-player affair since its debut 18 years ago.

However, the latest iteration of the wildly popular franchise will allow players to explore a new period in Elder Scrolls history, reportedly set a millennium before the momentous events of Skyrim.

“We have been working hard to create an online world in which players will be able to experience the epic Elder Scrolls universe with their friends, something fans have long said they wanted,” said Matt Firor, game director of The Elder Scrolls Online.

“It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years. The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.”

Additional details, such as adherence to Elder Scrolls canon and possible future tie-ins, remain few and far between. However, we do know Bethesda will be posting more teasers over the next, with the first screenshots scheduled to hit later today.

Elder Scrolls Online is scheduled to go live in 2013 for both the PC and OS X.
