Oh, those pesky rumors that keep circulating about Star Trek 2. Yes, JJ Abrams is trying to keep his shoot top secret, which obviously isn’t easy in this day and age.
Of course, it’s unclear if there is any actual truth to the current rumors on the ‘Net, peerless source of accurate information that it is, so definitely take the following with a grain of salt. Then again, you know the age-old adage: "All stories come true in the end."
According to reports on Cinema Blend, Trek Movie, and Collider, rumors have again surfaced that Khan will be the villain in Abrams’s second rebooted trek, and there are yet more rumors that the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy, will be back as Spock Prime, along with the Klingons!
As you may recall, Spock Prime was last seen at the end of the 2009 movie sending off the new crew of the USS Enterprise, leaving him to help the Vulcans who survived Nero’s destruction of their home planet.
Cinema Blend quoted a tweet from Nimoy where he wrote, "I enjoy conversations with JJ Abrams and Zachary Quinto. Keeping up on their work. They are my friends, LLAP." Collider also reminds us Nimoy confirmed on CNN he’d be back.
Now you may recall that set photos of the Enterprise gang fighting the new villain of the film recently surfaced, but he sure didn’t look anything like Khan. It's also worth remembering that a photo of the whole Star Trek cast showed up online with claims it was from the new set, yet the image was actually snapped during the first film.
So is there any truth to the above-mentioned rumors? It is difficult to know for certain, and even if we did, we wouldn’t want to spoil it for anyone. In any case, the latest leaks, if only partially accurate, will undoubtedly prompt Abrams to bolster security even further on the set. Will that stop determined Trekkies from attempting to find out more about the upcoming reboot? Personally I doubt it, because geek efforts to infilitrate genre sets are legendary and perhaps even deserving of their own films.
