Cabin In The Woods clip dares you to look

Lionsgate has released a new clip for its upcoming Joss Whedon horror film, The Cabin in the Woods, which has been in post-production for almost two years.

As we’ve previously discussed, Cabin in the Woods is formatted like a classic slasher film, and undoubtedly features many critical elements of the genre. Nevertheless, it also boasts an enigmatic sci-fi undertone that should differentiate if from other horror films.

For example, the clip above seems like the standard intro to a horror scene: A bunch of college frat kids alone in a haunted cabin in the middle of the woods dare each other to explore the dark basement. What could go wrong?

Still, knowing that Joss Whedon is at the helm, you can expect the scene, as well as the rest of the movie, to offer more than a few unexpected twists. Aliens, if portrayed correctly, can be just as frightening as the hell-raising monsters depicted in The Exorcist or The Amityville Horror.

The Cabin in the Woods stars Chris Hemsworth, Jesse Williams, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison and Fran Kranz as the friends, supported by Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford and Amy Acker as the supposed villains.

The film opens in theaters on April 13, 2012.
