Interactive Avatar is coming to iTunes

Apple has clinched a lucrative deal with Twentieth Century Fox for a special iTunes edition of James Cameron’s “Avatar” that will be packaged with new bonus interactive features.

The special edition will allow viewers to deconstruct some of the movie’s more memorable scenes to reveal how Cameron utilized special effects to create the immersive world of Pandora.

“Fans can experience the global box office sensation like never before as they control scene deconstructions in simultaneous views,” a Fox rep explained.

“This new feature will also enable fans to interact with the performance capture and visual effects levels in 17 of the film’s scenes.”

Indeed, for the first time ever, Green Screen X-ray provides viewers with an interactive look through the visual effects levels, where they can see the original green screen footage behind a particular scene.

“Avatar: iTunes Extras Special Edition” also features the original screenplay by James Cameron, Cameron’s scriptment (a novella with some scenes broken out into dialogue), a gallery of 1,700 images and other goodies.

The exclusive edition of Avatar is currently available for pre-order on iTunes starting today at $20 (HD) and $150 (SD).

“Avatar: iTunes Extras Special Edition” goes live on December 20th.
