Unplugging: NiN for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

‘Tis the season for team ups!  With bowl games and playoffs looming, teamwork is definitely on a lot of peoples’ minds, and the same is true for us here at MXDWN and TG Daily.  Same with rockers – they are teaming up for movie soundtracks, charity and a host of other projects coming soon to a stereo near you!

Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznorcently announced details of the full release of the upcoming soundtrack to David Fincher’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, a joint effort between Reznor and Atticus Ross. With a hefty 39-song release spanning across 3 CDs, or 6 vinyl discs, it is definite that Reznor and Ross have not been fooling around.

According to Reznor’s Nine Inch Nails website, there are two pre-order options. One pre-order option is available via iTunes, which includes a free download of their cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song,” as well as a chance to view an 8-minute trailer of the movie.

The second pre-order option is through Reznor’s Null Records storefront, where fans can download a free 6-track sampler and purchase the album, which will be available to buy in four different formats.

Last Wednesday Henry Rollins hosted Drop in the Bucket, an event that featured appearances by Corey Taylor, Scott Ian, John 5 and many others. Since the big event, a substantial amount of video footage of the event’s many collaborations has surfaced for your viewing pleasure.

The Avalon’s stage housed many performers and special guests, who performed covers of tunes from AC/DC, KISS, Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen and Alice in Chains. Corey Taylor, Scott Ian and Chris Martucci covered classics like AC/DC’s “Walk All Over You,” Black Sabbath’s “Faeries Wear Boots” and KISS’ “Calling Dr. Love.” A slew of videos from the event feature many of the various covers that occurred throughout the event.

Occupy Wall Street continues to influence music, as it was recently announced that Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio has teamed up with Greg Fox, formerly of Liturgy, as well as Oneida’s Kid Millions to create their very own album inspired from Occupy Wall Street.

Details on the album have yet to be announced, but there has been word of a recent 4-hour practice session between the three, that Greg Fox described to Village Voice as “unlike anything he’d been part of.” Proceeds from the album will go to the Occupy Wall Street movement. Besides this latest Occupy-inspired musical effort, Ladytron, Yo La Tengo and Devo recently announced their own Occupy LP.

For their 50th anniversary performance, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band is welcoming special guests who will join the jazz band on January 7th at Carnegie Hall.

Set to share the spotlight with the famous New Orleans jazz band are My Morning JacketDel McCoury BandTrombone Shorty,GIVERSAllen ToussaintBlind Boys of AlabamaTao Seegerand Mos Def. Together they will celebrate the distinct New Orleans jazz sound that the Preservation Hall Jazz Band has upheld and modernized over the years.

An unlikely team up between heavy metal band Mastadon and indie artist Feist will take place for a limited edition Record Store Day EP, that features both artists’ covers of a track from one another.

Feist told Hit Fix in a recent interview that she pitched the idea to Matador Records after she met Mastadon at a taping. It has been confirmed that Mastadon will be covering a Feist track off her latest album, Metals. Mastadon’s Troy Sanders believes Feist is considering covering the track “Oblivion,” off their 2009 release, Crack the Skye, although cover choices have not been set in stone yet.
