Some PS3 users to get Hulu Plus today

Some lucky PlayStation 3 owners are to get access to the Hulu Plus subscription service ahead of the rest.

Sony says that, from today, it will give access to the $9.99-per-month service to US customers who are already subscribers to its new $49.99-per-year PlayStation Plus service.

It's not entirely unexpected: when Hulu launched the Hulu Plus service last month, some of the source code let to speculation that PS3 users would be required to be members of Playstation Plus.

It's currently available on Apple iPhones, iPads and the iPod touch, as well as certain Samsung televisions and Blu-ray players.

It offers a wider range of TV and movie content than the company's free web service. It offers full seasons of TV shows, rather than just the latest five episodes. Included are the full current seasons of Glee, The Office and House.

Subscribers to PlayStation Plus can download the Hulu Plus app from the PlayStation Store and request an invitation. It's not guaranteed, as the service will only be available to a limited number.

"If you are accepted, you can access Hulu Plus for an additional $9.99 per month (the fee that Hulu is charging for all Hulu Plus subscribers) and start enjoying its library of television shows and movies from nearly 150 leading content companies streamed on demand in HD," says senior director for the PlayStation Network Susan Panico.

other PS3 users will have to wait, maybe for quite a while. The comany says only that it'll release Hulu Plus to all users 'in the coming months'. Xbox 360 users will have to wait until next year.
