Film portrays Facebook founder as 'borderline-autistic conniver'
Oh dear, oh dear. Just 18 months ago Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was one of Forbes' top ten billionaire bachelors; now, according to a new film, he's a mean-minded, nerdy sex maniac.
The Social Network depicts a 19-year-old Zuckerberg being dumped by his then girlfriend Erica. According to a script seen by the Times, she says she's afraid he'll go through life thinking girls don't like him because he's a tech geek.
"I want you to know, from the bottom of my heart, that that won’t be true. It’ll be because you’re an asshole," she explains.
Zuckerberg stomps off and promptly creates Thefacebook, which uses the Harvard yearbook as the basis for a website where men rank women on the basis of their appearance. It's so popular it crashes the Harvard network.
Later in the film, Zuckerberg is shown cutting out his two partners in Facebook, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. And just for good measure, there's a series of seedy sexual encounters.
Due out on October 1 this year, the Columbia Pictures movie is directed by David Fincher and stars Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg.
It's expected to be one of this year's big releases, and recently came eighth in Ioncinema's top 100 most anticipated films for this year.
Let's just hope that Zuckerberg doesn't see the film as an invasion of his privacy. Quite a lot of people will see it, after all, though probably not as many as have been seeing Facebook users' private information.
