Apple gives away $10,000-worth of music
Apple is promising a $10,000 gift card to the person who makes the ten billionth iTunes download.
"It’s our way of saying thanks," says the company, sweetly. You're very welcome, I'm sure.
The competition is open to anyone over the age of 13 who lives in a country with an iTunes store and can think of that much music that they want. There's a limit of 25 entries per person per day.
There's also a 'no purchase necessary' option, allowing people to submit a form on the website. You can do that 25 times a day, too, although there's obviously not a lot of point until the big number approaches.
Apple expects the ten billionth download to come some time this month. Interestingly, there's a ticker showing the current figure on the website - so things should get interesting as the magic number approaches. Hope they've got the bandwidth.
The last big milestone was the five billionth download, which happened in June 2008..
Apple also released a list of the most popular tracks at the iTunes Store. First is the Black Eyed Peas' I Gotta Feeling, followed by Poker Face from Lady Gaga.
