Redmond (WA) - The verdict is in in the case of Anascape v. Nintendo and it's not good news for the creator of the Wii. A judge has ordered that Nintendo infringed on patents owned by Anascape, a Texas-based technology firm.
At issue was the question of whether Nintendo's game controllers violated the protection owned by Anascape, which holds a patent for "a remote controller with analog buttons."
A federal court found today that Nintendo was in fact guilty, and ordered a cash settlement in the amount of $21 million.
In July 2006, when Anascape filed the lawsuit, it also named Microsoft as a defendant. However, Microsoft settled the disput out of court.
Nintendo has vowed to appeal the verdict.
