Video: LEGO expands Mindstorms EV3 model kit lineup

Lego has confirmed it will be rolling out three new Mindstorms model kits just in time for the summer.

The new kits – a collaboration between LEGO and SparkTruck – are designed to introduce younger students to the wonderful world of robotics.

“Many of our students here grew up playing with LEGO MINDSTORMS, so partnering with them validates our mission to bring kids prototyping tools and a next generation mindset,” explained Susie Wise, director of the d.K12 lab network at Stanford’s d.school.

“We want to spark future interests and careers from engineers, scientists and architects to artists, designers and activists.”

As you may recall, the first Mindstorms EV3 kits were first unveiled earlier this year and boast some interesting devices that can build with the included components. The three new kits that were introduced this week include a dinosaur, guitar, and whack a mole style game.

As noted above, the goal of the Mindstorms EV3 kits is to teach children how to start prototyping and encourage interest in robotics and science.
