Video: Catch-up on Game of Thrones with this recap
HBO has posted a lengthy recap video for season 2 of its popular epic fantasy drama.
Surely you’ve been watching Game of Thrones. It is the best fantasy serial on television right now, and perhaps the best television fantasy ever, setting the mark high for any future attempts to tell stories like this.
The only problem the show does have is timing. There are only 10 episodes per season, which run in weekly succession through the Spring, leaving fans with no progression for nearly 10 months out of the year. I might prefer it if the episodes arrived monthly rather than weekly, but that’s an unlikely schedule for any show.
The premiere of the new season, however, is now only a few weeks away, and the trailers - along with the words of the creators - are making this out to be the most ambitious season yet of the already grand show.
To help us catch-up with where we are in the story, since it may have been a while for you, unless you’ve been watching reruns on HBO, the network has released this video which retells the events of last season in summary. Even if the events are still fresh in your mind, however, it’s still worth a watch, as it’s narrated by the show’s actors, sometimes in-character, and they reveal little morsels of their own take on the story as it progresses. Settle in, though. It’s nearly fifteen minutes long:
Those of us who have already read the books know what’s coming in the following episodes. This time in the larger-than-life tale is very much about reversals of power and great sacrifices. Lots of new faces join the cast to replace those who have perished (or who will soon) and to complicate the plots already in place. The showrunners have mentioned that this season is also the one that will diverge the most from the source material, however, even to the extent that some characters may die who were left alive in the novel, and some may live who were killed, so we might be surprised, even with the books in hand.
Here is the latest trailer for the third season:
The third season of Game of Thrones, which covers the events of the first half of book three of George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, kicks off March 31, 2013 on HBO. If you need to catch up more thoroughly, you can grab the Blu-rays, over on Amazon.
