Game of Thrones season 3 extended trailer lights the pyre
HBO has posted an extended version of a recent trailer teasing the upcoming season of its dramatic fantasy serial.
If the first trailer for the new season of Game of Thrones wasn’t epic enough, this one has an additional 20 seconds or content, though otherwise seems very similar:
It’s hard to make a good trailer for a show like The Game of Thrones. There is so much going on, so much fans want to know, and so much more that they think they want to know but don’t really want to know. I can understand why the producers are so reluctant to release more footage. Though I’m sure we’ll see a few more trailers before the season premieres, I doubt any of them will have much more than what we see here.
The showrunners have commented several times that this is the season of the show they’ve wanted to do the most. Indeed, David Bennioff even said the stories they told this season are the reason for the show’s existence, and that once he’s gotten to do this season, he’ll feel satisfied, even if the show doesn’t survive long past these episodes - not that there is any danger of cancellation. In fact, it was recently confirmed that season 4 has been ordered, now that post-production is complete on Season 3. Season 4 will roughly cover the second half of book 3 of A Song of Ice and Fire, the series of novels upon which the show is based.
We also now have this mostly complete list of episode titles for the upcoming season. Those who have read the books will be able to tell pretty clearly what will be going on in each of these episodes. I’m starting to tear up already. I’m not sure I’ll make it to the end of the season without a breakdown like the one I had when I read the book (which I threw across the room in anger).
- Valar Dohaeris
- Dark Wings, Dark Words
- Walk of Punishment
- And Now His Watch is Ended
- Kissed by Fire
- The Bear and the Maiden Fair
- The Rains of Castamere
We have an episode description from HBO for only the first episode, Valar Dohaeris:
Jon is brought before Mance Rayder, the King Beyond the Wall, while the Night’s Watch survivors retreat south. In King’s Landing, Tyrion asks for his reward, Littlefinger offers Sansa a way out, and Cersei hosts a dinner for the royal family. Arya runs into the Brotherhood Without Banners. Dany sails into Slaver's Bay.
The third season of Game of Thrones, which covers the events of the first half of book three of A Song of Ice and Fire, kicks off March 31, 2013 on HBO. If you need to catch up, you can grab the Blu-rays over on Amazon.
