Dark Skies clips are not alone

Dimension Films has released a handful of new clips teasing its upcoming sci-fi horror adaptation.

Dark Skies follows the trials of a family who is targeted by a malevolent force, which wants to use them for its own dark purposes. As strange things start to happen in and around their home, the become increasingly paranoid and frightened, causing turmoil in their lives, and conflict with their neighbors. When they call in an expert, a man who has dealt with similar issues in the past, they are told that there is no hope for them; that once they’ve been chosen there is nothing they can do. Unwilling to give in, they stand and fight.

With just a week to the release of the film, we’ve gotten these clips, which mostly expand upon some of the scenes already hinted at in the trailer:

It’s unclear what, if any, connection the film has the the Dark Skies TV series from the 1990’s. None of the character names match, but that doesn’t mean that this isn’t intended to take place in the same story-world.

If you’re unfamiliar, Dark Skies was essentially a paranormal investigation show, focusing on space-aliens, which was marketed to capitalize on the popularity of The X-Files. The show took place in the 1960’s, and was presented like it was a dramatization of government records which had recently been unsealed.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you never heard of it, as the show only ran for 19 episodes. If nothing else, you might remember it as the show that gave Jeri Ryan her first recurring role, and provide her with the attention that landed her the Star Trek: Voyager role that ultimately made her famous.

Here is the theatrical trailer from the end of last year:

And the official synopsis of the film:

Dark Skies a psychological thriller about a suburban couple whose lives become a nightmare when a terrifying alien presence enters their home each night to prey upon their children. Increasingly isolated from skeptical friends and neighbors, the couple is forced to take matters into their own hands to save their family.

There will be a special screening of Dark Skies on February 20, 2013 at the ArcLight Dome in LA. It will be open to a limited number of fans, and include appearances by the cast of the film and swag giveaways. If you’re going to be in the area, you can RSVP here.

Dark Skies, which stars Keri Russell and Josh Hamilton, hits theaters on February 22, 2012.
