Trion Worlds has released a new clip for the video game half of Defiance.
Defiance is an upcoming cross-media project from Syfy and Trion Worlds. The television and video game of the same name will be narratively tied together, so that the actions of one affect the other. Mostly this interaction seems like it will take the form of a transfer of characters between the locales of each story. As an NPC leaved the San Fransisco Bay, where the game takes place, they may appear in St. Loius, where the show takes place, and vis versa. There have been mentions that other events in both stories will affect the other, but no examples given, so I suppose we’ll have to see as it develops.
We’ve been hearing a lot about the show lately, with new trailers and such dropping each week for the last month, but not much has been revealed about the game since that first gameplay trailer came out over a month ago:
Now, however, we’ve got the details on what will be included in the preorder bonus packs. The game is going to be free to play, with a micro-transaction component, so they’ve strived to make some appealing packs for those who are already devoted fans of the as-yet-unreleased game, as well as a couple cheap packs for those who just want to dip a toe in. All of the packs come with access to the closed beta for the game:
Defiance Pre-Order ($5) Bonuses Include:
Defiance Digital Deluxe Edition ($99) Includes:
Defiance Collector’s Edition ($99) includes the following:
Defiance Ultimate Edition ($149), available only at GameStop, adds the following to the Collector’s Edition:
There is also this new line-action cinematic trailer showing off the tone of the game, which will focus heavily on community and teamwork in the face of long odds, similar to the themes of the television show:
Here’s the latest trailer for the TV half of the project:
And the official synopsis:
Set in the near future, Defiance introduces an exotically transformed planet Earth, its landscapes permanently altered following the sudden - and tumultuous - arrival of seven unique alien races. In this somewhat unknown and unpredictable landscape, the richly diverse, newly-formed civilization of humans and aliens must learn to co-exist peacefully. Each week, viewers will follow an immersive character drama set in the boom-town of Defiance, which sits atop the ruins of St. Louis, MO, while in the game, players will adventure in the new frontier of the San Francisco Bay area. The dramatic tapestry of the series and the intense action of the game will exist in a single universe where their respective narratives will inform one another and evolve together into one overall story.
Defiance, the game, is slated for April 2, 2013. Defiance, the show, will premiere with a double-length episode on April 15 on Syfy.
