Video: The Walking Dead have spoken

AMC has posted two Walking Dead clips teasing the upcoming second half of season 3.

The Walking Dead, one of the most watched shows on television right now, is currently in mid-season hiatus, having left off on a cliff-hanger. Tensions are running high between Rick’s crew over at the prison and the citizens - especially the governor - of Woodbury.

AMC, which used to only air old American films, released this preview of the remaining episodes over the holiday weekend:

Then, Wednesday morning, we received this clip from the upcoming new episode, entitled The Suicide King. There is no mention of where in the episode this clip comes from, but it looks like it follows immediately after the end of episode 8:

The drama escalates, of course.

Personally, I’m finding it harder and harder to watch the show. I want to watch it. I want to see what happens next. However, the melodrama is starting to grate on me, and the artificial tension of each episode usually leaves me with a headache by the end. The first couple seasons were good, and felt natural, but now the drama is fully manufactured.

It doesn’t make sense to me that there is still a zombie problem nine months later, especially through a winter. Nine months is a long time for a body to decay, especially if it’s moving around, and these zombies all seem to decay only to a certain point then stop falling apart. They are impervious to freezing apparently, as well. I also find it hard to believe that more places like Woodbury - except not run by a crazy person - don’t yet exist. I think it would only take a few months for people to figure out permanent ways to deal with the zombies, and start building new settlements that are actually safe. They attempt to explain the zombies with science, and it worked fror a while, but these zombies are clearly magical, and that's not what I signed on for.

Dramatic and verisimilar issues aside, it seems the show is here to stay. Viewership hovers around 10 million for each episode - which is very good for a cable network. There are 8 episodes left in the current season, and the show has already been renewed for another 16 episode season afterward. We’re also starting to get some of the first real information about the upcoming video game based on the show - which is distinct from the video games based on the comics. I guess I’m the only one tired of zombies.

The Walking Dead returns with the second half of season 3, starting with episode 9, on February 10, 2013 on AMC.
