Video: The gameplay of Transformers Universe
Anyone who grew up in the genre saturated 80's will undoubtedly remember the original Transformers cartoons and toys that were almost truly ubiquitous.
More recently, several Transformers movies have hit the big screen courtesy of the controversial Michael Bay, leading to a resurgence in merch and games for a fresh generation of fans. So it comes as little surprise that a new Transformers MMO - titled Transformers Universe - is currently in the works .
Universe allows players to choose sides in the seemingly perpetual battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons. Interestingly, the MMO reportedly follows the Prime timeline that fits in with the book Exodus, the War for Cybertron games, as well as the Prime cartoon.
The free-to-play MMO is being developed at the RuneScape studio Jagexand and will be supported by in-game transactions. Exactly what you will be able to buy via those in-game purchases is unknown, but presumably we're talking about weapons and other power ups to help you compete against other players.
The video you see above is the title's first actual gameplay video. The graphics look decent enough, and the video shows some Autobots cruising around in vehicle form and battling with giant Gatling guns in robot form. Presumably, players will be able to change to and from robot form whenever they want and as the mission requires.
I have to say I find the thought of transforming into a robot with a giant Gatling gun is appealing. It's also clear from the game play video that melee weapons such as swords and saw blades will be key components in the fighting. Finally, the video showcases varioust battle environments, ranging from destroyed cities to lush forests. Unfortuantely, there is no indication of when the video game will launch at this time, but we will keep you posted.
