Video: Rise of the Triad FPS gets resurrected

When it comes to playing video games on the PC, my favorite genre is undoubtedly the stalwart first person shooter (FPS).

Now one of the first shooters I ever played was Wolfenstein way back in the '90s, which served as a predecessor of sorts to both Doom and Quake.

And now Apogee Software (yes, that Apogee) has confirmed it is working on resurrecting yet another ancient FPS game dubbed Rise of the Triad.

Frankly, the trailer for the game reminds me a lot of Wolfenstein. In any event, Triad is powered by the Unreal Engine 3 and Steamworks, giving the game impressive graphics as you can see in the video above.

The developer of Triad promises the revival of the franchise will be bigger, better, and more ludicrous than ever before - offering both multiplayer and single player modes.

"We were seeking a strong, independent, hard-working development partner to herald the eagerly-anticipated return of ‘Rise of the Triad’," said Apogee bigwig Terry Nagy. "We have indeed found that partner in Interceptor Entertainment."

The game is expected to launch later this year via Steam and puts players into the shoes of H.U.N.T. (High-Risk United Nations Task Force) members with five different unique characters to choose from. Each of the five characters supports different playing style, and the game boasts over 20 levels of single player action, along with unique multiple player maps.

Triad also features some interesting weapons, including a flame wall, fireball, split missile, joint missile, and the excalibat. In addition, the game offers multiple modes that sound like fun, including god mode, elasto, mercury, shrooms and even dog mode.
