Game Genie launches on PS3

he classic game-hacking cheat device has made a return.

Back in the day, players who wanted an unfair edge in their games became very familiar with the name "Game Genie."

That was the name of a line of devices that allowed users to enter cheat codes and unlock modifications to their Super Nintendo, Game Boy, Sega Genesis, etc games.

The system worked by plugging in game cartridges into the Game Genie console, and then plugging that into the console. This initiated a boot to the Game Genie menu where users selected the cheats that they wanted to activate.

After the industry moved from cartridges to discs, the Game Genie brand died off. Until now. Hyperkin has brought it back to life, and launched a new product for the PS3.

The PS3 Game Genie works by allowing users to download special save file edits to a USB flash drive, which can then be plugged into a PS3.

"Using an Internet connection, the program links the user to a continually updated database of available games and enhancements. Users can pick enhancements that could potentially unlock maximum ammo, money, as well a variety of other power-ups. Popular games that will have modifications at release are Uncharted 3, Batman: Arkham City, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," Hyperkin wrote in a statement.

The Game Genie for PS3 is available for around $30 - $35.
