Playstation-branded 3D TV comes 11/13

Gamers who want an affordable way to experience the 3D content available on their PS3 and other devices will have the solution they’ve been looking for on November 13.

That’s when the Sony Playstation-branded “3D Display” will go on sale in the US and many other territories. It is arguably the best value for anyone who’s looking to move into the 3D revolution.

The 24-inch 3D Display is not an actual TV; it has no built-in TV tuner. But since no one actually watches TV with an antenna anymore, it’s kind of a moot point.

So for $500, consumers will get the 24-inch flat-panel display, a pair of 3D glasses, an HDMI cable, and a copy of the 3D-optimized game Motorstorm Apocalypse.

In addition, the coolest feature of the 3D Display is its “SimulView” feature, which requires gamers to buy an extra pair of 3D glasses. Then, if you get together with a friend and each put on a pair of glasses, the display will be different for each player.

It works by replacing the traditional function of 3D glasses from taking two simultaneous images and mapping them on top of each other, to instead creating two completely separate images and emitting each one to one pair of glasses at a time.

Currently, Motorstorm Apocalypse along with Gran Turismo 5, Killzone 3, and Super Stardust HD support Simulview mode.

If you’re still unsure as to whether or not a 3D display is worth it, Sony has kept a list of 3D-compatible PS3 games here.
