EA Scrabble lets iPhone and Android play nicely

Scrabble is a popular game, and now it’s being used to unite social gamers no matter what platform they happen to be on.

According to AFP, U.S. videogame giant Electronic Arts (EA) released a version of Scrabble that users can play together even if they are using Apple devices, Android devices, or Facebook.

Scrabble Free breaks from the usual practice of limiting opponents to people using comparable operating systems, like iPhone versus iPad or Android smartphone going up against a tablet computer also running the Google supported operating software.

Scrabble Free was made available as a free download at Android Marketplace.

"We really are kind of obsessed right now about how to tear down boundaries of entry to some of these games," EA Interactive senior vice president Chip Lange said while giving a peek at the game.

"The vision is to get people into games in a quick, easy way," he added.

EA is working on expanding its Origin game social network into a nucleus where users can interact with friends no matter what kind of hardware they have, according to Lange.

"Origin is the technology at EA that is focused on connecting everything we do," Lange said.

EA says that Scrabble Free unites players "cross-platform" through Origin or Facebook.
