Wii Netflix goes into testing phase

Netflix has begun shipping Wii discs to some members that will allow them to stream titles from Netflix's instant viewing service directly from the Nintendo console.

The Wii becomes the last of the three major game systems to offer Netflix connectivity. The testing phase began Thursday, and test users' "feedback will ensure that we deliver a great experience to everyone when we launch," wrote Netflix on its official blog.

The Xbox 360 was the first to hammer out a partnership with Netflix, the largest online video rental service in the world. Gamers can begin watching Netflix titles on their 360 without any additional peripherals.

Last year, Sony launched a similar service for the PS3. However, PS3 owners need to request a disc from Netflix to open up the video-streaming service to their console. That will be the same case with the Wii.

For all systems, users must have an existing Netflix account that is compatible with the instant streaming service. Plans are available for as low as $9 a month.
