God of War III to take up 35GB of disc storage

According to a recent Twitter post from Sony's Santa Monica Studios, God of War III could well clock in as the highest-capacity PS3 game to date. It will be eating up most of the Blu-ray disc's capacity at a massive file size of 35GB.

Santa Monica Studios director of Technology Tim Moss tweeted the following about the upcoming PS3 exclusive title: "#GOW3 35Gb of goodness. Thank heavens for Dual Layer Blu-Rays". God of War III is already infamous for being quite possibly the most technically ambitious game to date on the PS3. Early buzz on the game is highly focused on the HD graphical overhaul of the multi-million-unit-selling GOW franchise.

The third installment in the fantastical game series is slated for a North American release on March 16, and Sony is quickly tying up all the loose ends. Never before has a publisher boasted about a single-disc console game with such a large file size. Although every disc-based PS3 game is released on Blu-ray, the overwhelming majority do not even come close to reach the medium's 50GB capacity limit (100GB for dual-layer).

Easily one of the most anticipated titles of the year, God of War III is the last major first-party franchise from Sony that has yet to make the leap from PS2 to PS3. Fans have been awaiting the game ever since it was officially announced in 2008.

In addition to the standard $60 game, Sony is also releasing a $100 "Ultimate Edition" with a packed-in replica of Pandora's Box, an exclusive art book, and a bunch of in-game content available only to those who purchase the premium package.
