Mountain View (CA) - Google is working hard to deliver the highest level of quality where their search results are concerned. The company is now employing a semantic search technology, altering the existing algorithm in an attempt to make Google's suggestions more relevant.
In the past, the search engine relied on the analysis of keywords to conduct searches. The search engine was not capable of deciphering the meaning of words in effort to return results. Google executives have stated in the past that semantic technologies might utilized in the search engine in the future in combination with its algorithm rather than as a replacement.
In a blog post written by Ken Wilder, Snippets Team Engineer and Ori Allon, Technical Lead, Search Quality team the two gave examples of how the new search technologies would operate and perform. "If you search for [principles of physics], our algorithms understand that angular momentum, special relativity, big bang and quantum mechanic are related terms that could help you find what you need."
The changes to the search engine algorithm also improves the results it provides for more detailed and lengthy searches. Usually when a search result is returned it contains a title, which is backed up with text from the website in which it links, called a snippet. This allows the viewer to see in what context their search terms are utilized and to also determine what the page includes.
The new algorithm allows for more of the article context to be provided with search results, and every query will be in bold. When you conduct lengthier searches you will now be provided with longer snippets of information.
The new search page appears to be designed to compete with sites which are starting to reach into the deep web.
