Bill and Ted 3 will not be a reboot

The director of Galaxy Quest is reportedly on board to helm the next Bill and Ted movie.

Both Bill and Ted and Galaxy Quest are beloved by us geeks, and it’s a great idea to bring Quest director Dean Parisot in to bring the eternal dudes Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves back for one more go round.

Both Reeves and Winter are willing to come back for one more Bill and Ted flick, and now Vulture and Cinema Blend are reporting that Parisot should direct if this all comes to pass.

Parisot’s going to making the sequel to Red in the spring, so Bill and Ted won’t be back immediately. But fans of those Wyld Stallyns know with this news that another Bill and Ted could be a step closer to reality, which would be great if it all finally comes together. Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson have also come back to write the third script, which both Alex and Keanu are reportedly happy with. (Solomon also wrote the first Men in Black film.)

As Vulture tells us, Solomon and Matheson wrote the script on spec, meaning they haven’t gotten a studio deal for it yet. Yes, they wrote a third Bill and Ted without a big money assignment to do it, and I think it’s pretty safe to say they’ll get a studio interested, especially with Parisot attached as a director. And here’s the real good news… This will not be a remake or reboot. This is reportedly going to be where Bill and Ted are today.

As William Sadler, who played the Grim Reaper, told Cinema Blend, “I’d love to go back and play with those guys again. That was one of the most fun roles I’ve done. I’ll be there in a heartbeat, if they want to do it.”

Yes, sequels push their luck when they get up into threes and fours, and both Bill and Ted movies were great, so there is the worry that the third one won’t match up to the previous ones, but here’s hoping Bill and Ted will go out with a bang and there will be three excellent films in their oeuvre.
