So you’re running a major studio and couldn’t get The Avengers. Well, hey, that’s no reason to rip your hair out over missing such a huge superhero goldmine, as there’s plenty of superheroes who have yet to make the big screen.
Indeed, a movie depicting the esoteric Marvel character The Human Fly, who graced the pages of comic books from 1977 to 1979, is apparently in the works. As Deadline notes, the Human Fly was actually based on a real-life stuntman, and he even managed to last some 19 issues. Spider-Man and Daredevil also made appearances in the comic, and the film may be an indie production.
Collider is also reporting that Barry Sonnenfeld, director of Men in Black, may be directing a big screen version of the DC comic, The Metal Men, featuring character such as Gold, Iron, Lead, Mercury, Tin and Platinum.
As Fast Company recently pointed out, DC has plenty of titles they can do for the big screen besides Batman, though this is certainly an interesting place to start.
Of course, there are plenty of other interesting comics that didn’t last as long as Batman and Spider-Man that could become comics one day.
Blade was one less known comic that had a successful series, I’d still love to see reboots of Howard the Duck and Swamp Thing one day, and I’m sure someone will try and get a Dr. Strange movie made some day as well. (There have already been several attempts over the years).
We also recently did a story about African American superheroes, and it would be cool to see movies based on the Black Panther, and Luke Cage Hero For Hire.
Looking around the web for obscure characters, I also forgot about Brother Voodoo, Master of Kung Fu, Werewolf By Night, the fantasy comic Beowulf, and so many more. In fact, would be interesting to see a major studio take something smaller, and make it grow into a big oak, instead of running the risk of possibly ruining a major comic everyone knows and loves.
