Superhero teams are the hot thing right now, which is why Fox is rebooting The Fantastic Four. This is a team up the movies still haven’t gotten right. But with Josh Trank, the director of Chronicle, at the helm, there’s hope this incarnation could finally have a chance.
Right now, a number of genre stories are setting up spin-offs that will exist within a story’s universe, so to speak, much like the Iron Man films continued in and out of The Avengers. The latest superhero series to attempt this is Spider-Man, and movies featuring the Sinister Six and Venom are currently in the works.
Okay, so we’ve been reading a lot of speculation, rumor, and hearsay everywhere about the next Star Wars movie. Now finally JJ Abrams has disclosed some official information about what’s going on in the Star Wars universe.
It’s been hard to tell what the next Transformers movie is going to be because there’s been a lot of confusing mis-information out there about it. Is it a reboot? A continuation of the last one? The console wars really heated up during the holiday, and as we reported here on TGD, there was a surprising twist in the new year. PlayStation 4, who were originally behind in the race, ultimately came out ahead. Where Xbox One was considered a more versatile unit, the hardcore gamers helped drive PlayStation 4’s sales to the top.
Many were hoping that Pacific Rim would launch a giant Japanese robot trend, us included, but it wasn’t big enough of a hit to do this. Still, we’re not surprised to read a report that the robots of Gundam may in the works to come back.
With so many great shows out there, there has really been a great time for genre television. Now that it’s a new year, we’ve got all new seasons of Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Under the Dome just around the corner, but at least two of those shows will relaunch further away from each other so not to create a ratings war.
The overall worldwide tally may still favor Sony, but Microsoft can take solace that on home territory it held the competition at bay.
The Academy Awards were announced early on January 16, and the movies that won the most nominations were Gravity and American Hustle. There’s already been backlashes against both movies, with some considering them over-rated, but the Motion Picture Academy sure didn’t think so, giving ten nominations to each.
