Star Wars May Finally Have an Official Villain

It’s hard to know what’s legit news on Star Wars. Seems like every time someone farts, a new rumor pops up on the net. The legit trades have been running this story, so here’s who could be the villain in Episode VII…

Will Interstellar Be the Next Hit on Matthew McConaughey's Roll?

A lot of movie stars make the cover of Vanity Fair and are hailed as the next big thing, and a lot of them disappear off the face of the earth shortly thereafter. You figured that’s what would happen with Matthew McConaughey, but he’s currently Hollywood’s latest comeback kid, and he could win an Oscar for The Dallas Buyers Club. Next up will be Interstellar, and there’s high hopes for it.

The Monty Python Gang to Return

In comedy, there’s probably no reunion the fans want more desperately than Monty Python. True, many of the members have done terrific stuff on their own, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam and Eric Idle certainly come to mind, but it would certainly be nice to see them all come together one more time.

Joss Whedon Already Onboard for Avengers 3?

You may recall there was a bit of a cliffhanger when Avengers Age of Ultron was coming together. It took a while to confirm Joss Whedon as the writer and director, but he was finally signed on, and is directing Ultron right now as we report this.

Seth Rogen Takes on the Console Wars

We at TGD often call the battle between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 the console wars, but there were console wars long before this of course, like when Sega and Nintendo went head to head back in the ‘90’s. Now this particular console war is up to be made into a movie, and Seth Rogan is onboard.

Hunger Games Catching Fire Officially One of the Biggest Movies of All Time

While dystopian stories for teens and young adults may not last forever, The Hunger Games and Diversion are certainly going to milk the genre for all its worth. The Hunger Games should especially stay strong until the movies finally wrap up in 2015, and Catching Fire is now officially one of the biggest grossing films of all time.

Firefly Rumors Begin Buzzing Again

Guys, we know, we know…We know the Browncoats would love Firefly to come back, and hope was renewed when Veronica Mars was resurrected by crowd funding. And we know there’s plenty of fans who would love to plunk some money down in exchange for some swag, along with the bragging rights that they helped bring Firefly back.

No More Phones for Moviefone

So many people have cell phones these days, but it’s getting nearly impossible to get anyone to answer a phone call in a day and age where everyone texts like crazy. Perhaps Moviefone saw this coming, because they soon will be eliminating the phone part of their service.

Guitarist Slash Says the New Godzilla is Cool

In addition to being the former guitarist of Guns N Roses, Slash has had a lengthy solo career, and he’s also a big fan of genre films, especially stuff with big dinosaurs and monsters. So of course he’s going to have an interest in the new incarnation of Godzilla, which is coming on May 16.

Lego Movie Sequel Announced

February is usually a dead zone for movies, so it’s not too surprising to see that the Lego film is making a lot of money right now, yet we at TGD have to admit we’re amazed at its staying power. In fact, by the time you read this, it will be the #1 movie in the country for three weeks.

Kevin Smith Biopic in the Works

A biopic about Kevin Smith? Isn’t he always doing a form of a biopic with this TV shows and podcasts? Would we even believe somebody else playing him? Would he be willing to play himself in someone else’s movie?

Is Game Stop in Trouble?

A long time back, gaming used to be a communal thing. You’d get together at arcades with your buddies, and even if you didn’t know people there, you were still bound together by the games you liked to play, much like liking the same music and movies. While I’m not sure if it’s the same thing for video game stores, it would be a drag to see them finally go out of business.

RIP: Harold Ramis of Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day Fame

Many know Harold Ramis from Ghostbusters where he played Dr. Egon Spengler, but Ramis was also one of the driving forces behind Animal House, not to mention he also directed Caddyshack, Vacation, Groundhog Day, and Analyze This. So we've been considerably saddened this week by the news that Ramis passed away at the age of 69.

Video Game Aliens Attack the World, Can Adam Sandler Save Us?

There’s quite a few video game movies currently in the works right now, but this one sounds like a pretty interesting concept. A group of aliens attack the world, and their assaults are staged like video games. It’s up to several gamers to defeat them and save the world from certain doom.

David Fincher May Direct the Biopic on Steve Jobs

The rights to the life of Steve Jobs were snapped up by Sony right after he passed away, but it certainly didn’t stop another Jobs biopic, which starred Ashton Kutcher, from being rushed into production. While that version didn’t do well, Aaron Sorkin wrote a script for the Sony version, and now David Fincher may be directing.

Marvel Netflix Series to Film in New York

Not only is Marvel setting up its phase three movies, which will reportedly include Doctor Strange and Avengers 3, but it also has a series of more obscure characters set up to debut on Netflix in 2015, including Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. Production will soon be rolling in New York.

Benedict Cumberbatch Gets His Smaug On

One would think it would be hard to play a dragon. Whether you’re in a costume, or doing it via motion capture, it’s gotta be hard not to feel completely silly. Still, Benedict Cumberbatch did a very good job in The Desolation of Smaug, especially considering he was a talking dragon as well.

Will Transformers 4 Be a Darker Installment?

There’s a new Transformers coming to town this summer, Age of Extinction, but anyone who’s a fan of the series should know what to expect, especially with Michael Bay directing. But will the next installment be a darker one that’s not exactly for kids?

Veronica Mars and Heroes About to Return

Last year, Veronica Mars was resurrected via crowdfunding, and it broke the record for the most money raised on Kickstarter to make a movie, a whopping $5.7 million. Mars creator Rob Thomas showed great fiscal responsibility with the money, making the Mars movie on a tight budget and schedule, and it will also be available on VOD.
