I have absolutely nothing charitable to say about Courtney Love, and we’re only doing this story at TG because it’s being considered a landmark in a legal technology suit. Or at least the press has been hyping it up that way.
With the next Star Wars movie reportedly getting ready to shoot this May, there’s going to be a big avalanche of news on the legendary space saga. Very little is official right now, which is to be expected, and JJ Abrams will keep everything as hidden as he can, but a very interesting rumor, one of many, just hit the net about a potential collaboration with Pixar.
We’re not nuts about the idea that two Paul Verhoeven sci-fi classics have been remade, RoboCop and Total Recall. There’s still a lot of fan goodwill out there for Total Recall, and for many, us included, remaking RoboCop is tanamount to blasphemy. Still, we’ve been keeping our fingers crossed, and are hoping for the best.
Shaolin Temple was the 1982 debut of kung fu sensation Jet Li, and big surprise, it’s slated to be remade. Another big shocker, it’s going to be made in 3D, and Justin Lin, helmer behind several Fast and Furious movies, will make the reboot in China, in mandarin language no less.
One of the biggest disappointments in recent genre movie history was the sad saga of The Dark Tower. Several years ago it was going to be a three movie series at Universal with Javier Bardem in the lead, then it fell apart at the last second. Then it was set up at Warner Brothers, where it also stalled.
Now that Batman Vs Superman has pushed back its release date by nearly a year, we should have figured that another summer blockbuster would be moving into its place. Well as it turns out, Ant-Man has indeed pushed his way in to fill the gap.
George Takei is of course part of the OG Star Trek gang, and lately he’s been in the news as a frequent guest on Howard Stern, and for coming out of the closet. He’s also now the subject of his own documentary, To Be Takei.
Barbarella is one of those projects like Ghostbusters 3 and the remake of Logan’s Run. You keep hearing about it all the time, but it never comes to pass. Talk of a Barbarella remake first surfaced at the beginning of the millennium, with Drew Barrymoore slated to play the title role. (In addition, Rose McGowan almost played Barbarella with her then boyfriend Robert Rodriguez slated to direct.)
Superhero teams are the hot thing right now, which is why Fox is rebooting The Fantastic Four. This is a team up the movies still haven’t gotten right. But with Josh Trank, the director of Chronicle, at the helm, there’s hope this incarnation could finally have a chance.
Right now, a number of genre stories are setting up spin-offs that will exist within a story’s universe, so to speak, much like the Iron Man films continued in and out of The Avengers. The latest superhero series to attempt this is Spider-Man, and movies featuring the Sinister Six and Venom are currently in the works.
Okay, so we’ve been reading a lot of speculation, rumor, and hearsay everywhere about the next Star Wars movie. Now finally JJ Abrams has disclosed some official information about what’s going on in the Star Wars universe.
It’s been hard to tell what the next Transformers movie is going to be because there’s been a lot of confusing mis-information out there about it. Is it a reboot? A continuation of the last one? A movie that takes place in the universe with a whole new cast? At least the one thing we do know is that the Dinobots are in this one.
While the game market has always gone through a number of ups and downs, 2013 was a big year for gaming with Grand Theft Auto V, and Call of Duty: Ghosts. So what were the biggest game hits of 2013?
Okay, okay, we know what you’re thinking…Enough with the Batman Vs Superman! We couldn’t agree more. We’re sick of it too, and the movie isn’t even out yet. In fact, whoever’s waiting for Batman Vs Superman is now going to have to wait a little longer, two and a half years longer in fact.
We knew this day was coming for a long time, and now it’s officially here. Paramount Studios has announced they will no longer be making celluloid film prints of their movies, and theaters better have digital systems to project them, or they’ll get left behind.
As we just reported on TGD, at least one publication feels that Nintendo could be the comeback kid this year in the video game world after some tough times. We think this could be a very good year for gaming, especially considering consoles have been selling like crazy over the Xmas holidays, and Nintendo’s Super Mario Brothers was voted one of the best titles of 2013.
There’s been a lot of Star Wars speculation all over the net, and while nothing has been confirmed, the recent reports claim that every young actor with a pulse has been supposedly up for a role, and that the original trio of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Lei, are all going to have larger roles in the next film.
The console wars really heated up during the holiday, and as we reported here on TGD, there was a surprising twist in the new year. PlayStation 4, who were originally behind in the race, ultimately came out ahead. Where Xbox One was considered a more versatile unit, the hardcore gamers helped drive PlayStation 4’s sales to the top.
Many were hoping that Pacific Rim would launch a giant Japanese robot trend, us included, but it wasn’t big enough of a hit to do this. Still, we’re not surprised to read a report that the robots of Gundam may in the works to come back.
With so many great shows out there, there has really been a great time for genre television. Now that it’s a new year, we’ve got all new seasons of Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Under the Dome just around the corner, but at least two of those shows will relaunch further away from each other so not to create a ratings war.
