This is what the new Robocop looks like

One of the most iconic genre films of the 1980s was the original Robocop. True, the sequels weren’t that great, but the first is still one of my all-time favorite sci-fi films.

Nevertheless, I was rather excited to hear a remake is in the works, although whether or not the original magic can be recaptured remains to be seen.

But there is one thing about the new Robocop I’m almost certain of, namely, all fans of the popular franchise are wondering what the rebooted Robocop will look like. Fortunately, a number of images from the set recently surfaced online.

Interestingly enough, the new Robocop looks nothing like the original. In fact, the Robocop outfit reminds me more of the suit from the Crysis video game than Robocop, or perhaps even the one worn by Judge Dredd in the recent remake.

It’s also worth noting that Robocop likely cycles through several versions of the suit during the new film. Meaning, the version we see in the photos above may not be the primary iteration of the suit.

One item that’s particularly interesting to note is that the suit clearly shows Robocop with a human right hand. As you may recall, in the original movie, Murphy lost the remaining human hand in favor of a fully cybernetic body, leaving only his face intact.

The new film his theaters on August 9, 2013 and is set in the year 2028. The recently released synopsis reads as follows:

“In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front.

“Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.”
