Tomb Raider "Crossroads" trailer airs at E3

If you’re a fan of video games, you probably already know E3 2012 just kicked off in Los Angeles.

Yes, most of the big headlines probably won’t be made until later today, but a new game play trailer has surfaced at the event for the latest Tomb Raider DLC – dubbed “Crossroads” – with Lara Croft.

Considering that this is actually a prequel DLC that shows Lara Croft before she was the leather wearing, dual gun wielding adventurer we all know and love from the franchise, the game play is somewhat different than many undoubtedly anticipated. Namely, as you’ll see when you watch the trailer, Laura is much less confident and complains more than you’d expect from a Croft.

The DLC is being developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix. It will go live for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on March 5, 2013. From watching the game play footage, I suspect this title will be strapped with an M rating.

Indeed, the new game play trailer shows Lara as she wakes up in some kind of tomb, suspended in the air with skulls, bones and dead bodies around. After some sort of explosion, the tomb starts to collapse and Croft has to make her way out before she’s trapped and killed. You see little flashes of the Croft we know from earlier video games in the way she leaps and fights.

Crossroads certainly looks like it will be a very cool video DLC for fans of the Tomb Raider franchise that will provice a background story about how Lara Croft ultimately became to be the adventurer we all know and love so well.
