Comcast on Xbox Live experiences problems

Things aren’t going perfectly smooth for the newly launched Comcast streaming service on Xbox 360.

Yesterday, Microsoft bragged that the Xbox 360 became the first console to let existing Comcast customers stream TV content directly, without needing to switch their TV inputs to their cable box.

However, some users were unable to authenticate their Comcast accounts and as such, yesterday’s launch ended up being more of a headache than anything else.

Users who had difficulty received the following error message: “We were unable to activate Xfinity TV on Xbox 360 with this account. Please sign in as the primary Xfinity account holder and try again.”

After being pummeled by complaints, Microsoft acknowledged that the service didn’t launch as bump-free as it had hoped.

“We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience To learn more, please visit our Service Status page,” the company said in a statement.

Bumps in the road are to be expected, of course, since the Xbox 360 wasn’t exactly designed to be a replacement cable box when it came out in 2005. In 2012, however, Microsoft hopes that kind of expanded content offering will be what sets it apart from the competition.

Also launched yesterday were Xbox 360 apps for HBO Go and MLB.TV, further expanding the Microsoft console in the world of non-gaming entertainment content.
