Atlus has released a new trailer for its upcoming action role-playing game Game of Thrones, which is based on the television show of the same name and the Song of Ice and Fire books by George R. R. Martin.
This latest trailer seems to try to show some of the drama of the main narrative of the game.
Frankly, it comes off really bad, and I’m surprised Atlus let this out. First of all, even to a fan of the books and the shows - who knows quite a bit about the story and the world it’s set in - this ‘plot’ trailer is completely incomprehensible. It’s just a bunch of people shouting about things in seemingly disconnected scenes, with no sense of a greater narrative being given at all.
Second, the voice acting is sub-par, and the animated characters are full of stiff faces, and poor clipping. I’m not sure how this trailer is supposed to make me want to play the game.
After the previous video Atlus released for the game, one which showcased the actual gameplay and character generation in the game, I was really excited to see what was to come. An epic scale game in an epic scale world that I already love?
A television show/book tie-in game that tries to tell its own story rather than retelling the story in the source material? That all seemed really exciting. Now It just looks like another crappy action game with poor development values.
Game of Thrones, which is developed by Cyanide Studios, will be available for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 on May 15, 2012.
