Joss Whedon kicks off casting for In Your Eyes

Joss Whedon certainly has a lot on his plate lately in terms of projects, but much of it is coming to an end.

There are currently three Whedon films in post-production – The Cabin in the Woods, Much Ado About Nothing, and The Avengers – so soon it will be time to start on something new.

First up seems to be Whedon’s his pet project, In Your Eyes. The movie is being produced by his personal production company, Bellweather Pictures, which recently finished shooting its first film.

According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, Whedon has cast Abigail Spencer as the female lead for In Your Eyes, a fantasy romance with an undisclosed plot.

Yes, I’m sure it’s about magic and love connections and stuff like that, but with Whedon at the helm, we can also expect it to have well-rounded characters and a thoroughly considered back-story, as these are the qualities Whedon is best known for.

The only hint we have about the new project is the following brief description Whedon provided when he originally announced the development of the film:

“In Your Eyes is a metaphysical love story about two seemingly polar opposites who are deeply connected in ways neither could have ever imagined.”

Whedon has apparently been developing In Your Eyes for years, but did not feel it could be brough to a major studio. Indeed, the creation of this film was one of the major reasons Joss wanted his own micro-studio, and now he has it.

Spencer might be best known to sci-fi fans as the tortured wife of the protagonist in the recent action flick Cowboys & Aliens, though others may recognize her best as Suzanne Farrell, a minor character in the hit AMC show Mad Men. She’s just finished with shooting on Oz: The Great and Powerful, which is currently in post-production.

With casting beginning on In Your Eyes, we’ll likely see more news soon – as things are bound to move quickly in a small, private production company. Over the next few weeks, we can expect to see a male lead announced, then perhaps a more in-depth synopsis, so we can really see what this next project will be about.

In Your eyes has no official production or release dates.
