G.I. Joe: Retaliation trailer is here

The first full trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation, along with a brief introduction by Dwayne Johnson, is now live on YouTube.

As you probably already know, Retaliation is the sequel to the 2009 hit The Rise of Cobra. With Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis among the good guys this time around, we’re actually looking at more star power than the first film, which, I obviously don’t have to tell you, is kind of odd.

Paramount and Hasbro must be putting a lot of faith in director Jon M. Chu and this property’s salability if they’re willing to invest so much. Even the effects look better, with action scenes that blow the first film out of the water. If the whole film is as fun as this trailer, we’re in for an unexpected treat. Perhaps that’s why this trailer has been released sooner than expected. We likely won’t see it show up in theaters until March or April, since the film is scheduled for a June release.

No official synopsis yet, but as far as I can tell, just from the trailer and cast-list, the story this time is that Zartan has a kill order put out on the G.I. Joe unit. Only a handfull of Joe’s survive the surprise assault, including the gunner Roadblock (Johnson) and the spec-ops tactician Lady Jaye (Adrianne Palicki). Together they have to find a way to take back the world from Cobra control. Their only ally is found in the original “G.I. Joe,” the retired General Joe Colton (Willis).

In addition to the above mentioned, G.I. Joe: Retaliation stars Channing Tatum, Ray Stevenson, and Joseph Mazzello. The film hits theaters June 29, 2012.
