People who ordered the Nook e-reader early from Barnes & Noble and won't get them before Christmas are to be compensated.

While B&N reckons that the vast majority of those who ordered early will get their Nooks by December 24th, if it's not going to happen the early birds will get compensated.

They'll receive an email notification on the 23rd of December with a $100 online gift certificate.

"Only a small percentage" of Nooksters won't get ther e-readers, B&N promised. Earlier this month, the company said it couldn't fulfil late orders until the beginning of next year.

Meanwhile, it's being reported that an upgrade to the Nook might be available as early as this week, fixing performance problems with the Android based device.
