San Diego, CA - Sony has launched the S Series Walkman Video MP3 player, with built-in stereo speakers to allow users to inflict their taste on those around them.
"By outfitting this Walkman with internal speakers, we feel that we are adding a new social element to the world of digital music and video," said Katie O'Brien, manager of the Walkman business for Sony.
The new player is less than half an inch thick, and has a high-contrast 2.4-inch QVGA LCD screen with playback at up to 30 frames per second. It features the company's Clear Audio and Digital Linear Phase Speaker System technologies.
The battery gives up to 42 hours of music playback and up to 6.5 hours of video playback through the headphones, says Sony. Through the speaker, it provides up to 17 hours of music and up to five hours of video. It also has a voice recording and FM recording feature.
The S Series player supports audio and video codecs including MP3, WMA(DRM), AAC(non DRM) and Linear PCM, along with AVC (H.264/AVC) Baseline Profile, MPEG-4 and WMV(DRM). It also supports JPEG.
Also new is the E Series Walkman Video MP3 player series, a more basic version of the S Series.
The Sony S Series will be available next month in 8GB and 16GB models for about $110 and $130, respectively. E Series models will cost $30 less.
