Samsung delays one high-def disc player, cancels another

  • Los Angeles (CA) - Two new high-def players from Samsung were expected this holiday season but those plans have now changed.

Samsung had originally planned to release the BDP-2400 Blu-ray player, as well as a dual Blu-ray/HD DVD player, in the next month.  The combo player, which will be Samsung's first, has been pushed back to December, just barely in time for the holidays.

The BDP-2400 has been outright canceled.  Samsung has not commented on why it decided to halt development and production of its high-end Blu-ray player, no why it has delayed the combo player.

LG is the only other manufacturer who currently has a combo disc player.  The BH100 has playback capability for Blu-ray, HD DVD, and DVD movies.
