Canon announces two new entry-level digital cameras

  • Lake Success (NY) - Canon's Powershot line of cameras is about to expand, as the company today announced two new under-$200 models, both of which will be available next month.

The Powershot A550 is a 7.1 megapixel camera with a 4x optical zoom and video recording ability of 30 frames per second (FPS). As the successor to the A530, it has a bigger LCD screen of 2" and a higher resolution than its predecessor.

The other new camera is the A460, which has a 5 megapixel sensor, 4x optical zoom and 2" LCD screen. Both have around 10 shooting modes, include Canon's autofocus technology, are PictBridge compatible, and use SD/MMC/SDHC memory cards.

The A550 will have a suggested retail price of $200, with the less powerful A460 priced at $150. Both are slates for a retail debut of mid-February.
