Stream uncompressed HD video with new wireless specification
Sunnyvale (CA) - A new wireless protocol spec promises to stream multiple uncompressed HD videos up to 33 feet away. While the spec isn't finalized yet, it will probably function in the 60 GHz band which can transfer at more than 25 Gbps allowing for two to three uncompressed 1080p streams.
The spec is being spearheaded by the Wireless HD group composed of several consumer electronic manufacturers that include LG, Matsushita, Samsung and Sony. The CE companies are partnering up with wireless startup SiBEAM to finalize the spec by spring 2007. The group predicts the first products will appear in 2008 or 2009.
WirelessHD will somewhat compete with Ultra-Wideband devices which will start appearing later this year. UWB operates on the 3.1 to 10.6 GHz band and can transfer a few gigabits per second.
