Media may have jumped the gun on Sony's purported operating loss |

Richmond (VA) - Late today, several websites began reporting that Sony is expected to post its first operating loss for global operations in 14 years. Some websites report a "healthy loss" or "substantial loss."
As a result, late this afternoon Sony Global issued the following statement: STATEMENT REGARDING MEDIA STORY ON SONY'S FINANCIAL RESULTS Sony understands that a story appeared in the media regarding Sony's expectations on operating results for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2009. Sony has made no announcement in this regard and at this time has no further comment. We will have to wait for Sony's official announcement to find out if speculation about an operating loss is correct or not. Typically Sony releases its quarterly financial data near the end of the month following the quarter. On January 7, 2009, Sony announced they would issue financial data for the quarter on January 29, 2009 at 15:00 JST.
