United States - Twenty-two states are currently participating in the Streamlined Sales Tax Project, which is "an effort to simplify the nationwide patchwork of tax rates," says AP Digital. As a result, some retailers will be forced to collect sales tax on out-of-state sales because they have a virtual presence there, such as through an online website where consumers can purchase products.
