Las Vegas (NV) - Trendnet is showing off at CES this week what it calls the world's smallest wireless N travel router. The company also showed off a 450 Mb/s router, which is expected to become available by the third quarter of this year.

This 300 Mb/s TEW-654TR wireless N router measures just 2.5” wide by 3.25” long by 0.75” high (6.4 x 8.2 x 1.9cm). A built-in LED display delivers power and link status information. It has MMO antenna technology to help deliver better wireless coverage, a reset button, power port and 10/100Mbps WAN Ethernet port.

The router, as part of a kit, comes with a carrying case, three-foot Ethernet cable, electrical adapter and a USB cable for powering from a laptop. This should be a good product for all mobile warriors on the go who find themselves lacking wireless coverage in their hotel rooms.

There is no pricing or availability information as of yet.

Even more interesting is the TEW-773GR, which we have no seen in operation yet, but if it delivers the performance Trendnet promises, it may be the fastest wireless N router yet. According to the manufacturer, the device can hit data transfer rates of 40 Mb/s.

The router's performance backbone is driven by a chipset that supports three high performance external antennas and three spatial streams per antenna. The result is a 50% increase in speed and an estimated 30% increase in coverage as compared to current wireless n solutions.

This prototype also offers features such as all Gigabit Wide Area Network and Local Area Network ports, QoS technology, Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) support, advanced wireless encryption, a double firewall and an embedded energy saving technology. Trendnet said the router will hit store shelves sometime in Q3 of this year.

So I can power it from my laptop.... and plug it into ethernet... so that I can connect to wireless. Brilliant! No really, I see what they are getting at, let one laptop power it and be tethered and that way other laptops can connect to your access point. Pics?
