Las Vegas (NV) - Microsoft’s Robbie Bach provided some updates on Xbox 360 content at CES. Halo Wars received a new release date and Kodu will allow users to create their own games.

According to the executive, Microsoft has sold more than 28 million Xbox 360 consoles and just concluded its most successful year ever. 17 million people are now active on Xbox Live and it seems that the recent launch of NXE had a positive for Microsoft: Content downloads are up 60%, Bach said.

One of the big stories in 2009 will be new Halo games: The strategy game Halo Wars will be available as a demo download on February 5; the final version will be released on March 3. Halo Odst, a first person shooter, will be released later this year. Bach briefly demonstrated Primetime, a new feature that will allow gamers to participate in virtual versions of game shows such as 1 vs. 100. Primetime will debut this spring.

Bach mentioned that Microsoft will be going much more after connected and social gaming in the future. However, Microsoft’s approach to engage more and especially different types of gamers into Xbox Live will be somewhat different than what Nintendo has done. Primetime is one example and another will be Kodu - a project that started out to teach children to program and has turned into a platform that allows users to create their own games.
