Las Vegas (NV) - D-Link is taking an "everything but the kitchen sink" approach to a new 802.11n WiFi router debuting at the Consumer Electronics Show. The new Xtreme N DIR-685, with no current pricing or release date, sports among other things a built-in digital photo frame.


The DIR-685 seems to be designed for those who want less technology cluttering the home. The integrated 3.2-inch LCD display lets one see device status via graphical gauges, as well as being able to enjoy digital photos, streaming video, weather forecasts and other Internet content via the wonderful world of widget technology.

Another function of the DIR-685 is its network attached storage function, supporting both UPnP and BitTorrent. It also acts as an FTP server for remote file access, offers USB device sharing over a network and lets one schedule times to turn off the WiFi module to save energy.

D-Link describes the DIR-685 as something one doesn't need to hide in the closet via its "sleek design" and internal antennas.

It's not just a "device" on your desk or bookshelf. It's a picture frame that routs network... Only if they make the screen size a bit bigger.
