The one thing that you know as an employee of verizon is that violate the customer's privacy and you are out, gone, no questions, done deal. They have zero tolerance for infringing on a customer's privacy.

One can just see a group of employees huddle around a screen, snickering at what they have seen. The thing that is worrisome is that they can snoop on anybody. They just got caught snooping on the president-elect. In the past anyone wanting your phone records required authorization, and lots of paper... now it's just a couple of button click away from some underpaid Verizon employee. Who gets fired then for allowing warrantless wiretapping? And how is that any different? Is the NSA's idle curiosity somehow special in comparison to any other citizen?

What you must remember about this situation is simply that: It could happen to anybody. Every company employs persons who may or may not exercise good judgement in a situation like this one. These employee's excercised exceedingly poor judgement in CHOOSING to go against the company's credo (one of them) of Integrity First. They deserve to be fired. Verizon Wireless also came FORWARD with this information, once they discovered it themselves. It was not discovered by an outside source and released. The company knew FULL WELL of the consequences but essentially had no choice but to release it. It's just another case of 'a few bad apples'. Unfortunate, but let's not mistake this situation for unauthorized wiretaps (which I believe is not exactly how it's been portrayed in the media).

So the small worker get fired for not using private information, but the big kahoonas get to keep their jobs after exploiting the information? This is not the America I was promised as a child. We have created laws banning sexism, racism, and now we need to move onto classism.
