Santa Clara (CA) - After being fired from SiPort, a wireless chip company based in Santa Clara, a tech employee was apparently driven over the edge and killed three people. Among the victims were chief executive Sid Agrawal, vice president of operations Brian Pugh, and human resources manager Marilyn Lewis.
According to a report published by the San Jose Mercury News, the alleged shooter, Jing Hua Wu of Mountain View, fled the scene driving a silver SUV but was later apprehended by the Santa Clara police. Wu, 47, was an engineer who was laid off either Thursday or Friday morning. He opened fire at his former place of employment shortly after 4 pm on Friday. Company representatives said that he was let go because of performance reasons and not as part of a general layoff. Workplace shootings take place all over the country, but this is the first time in a while something like this has occurred in Silicon Valley.
