Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and three major notebook manufacturer today announced a recall of about 35,000 notebook batteries (100,000 worldwide) with Sony-manufactured batteries. The recall adds to the massive 2007 Sony battery recall, which affected more than 10 million notebooks globally.

The 35,000 batteries in this latest recall were used in notebooks from Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba and Dell in systems that were sold between November 2004 and June 2006. According to the USCPC, the affected lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.  

Overall, about 32,000 HP Pavilion dv- and zd-series, Compaq Presario v-series and Compaq nc and nx series devices are recalled. Affected batteries have a bar code
label starting with A0, L0, L1 or GC.

Toshiba recalls about 3000 Satellite A-, P- and M-series as well as Tecra A and S models. Dell said about 150 Latitude 110L and Inspiron notebooks are affected. Details about the models can be found here.
   
Owners of these notebooks are advised to “immediately remove the recalled battery from their notebook computer, and contact their computer manufacturer to determine if their battery is included in the recall and to request a free replacement battery.”

I read on another site that Acer was also affected. Anyone confirm this?
