Round Rock (TX) – Dell has upgraded its all-in-on system XPS One with a larger LCD and new core hardware components. Prices for the new systems start at $1699.

Efforts to copy the iMac concept over to the PC arena never really worked and resulted in somewhat exotic. Gateway’s One or Dell’s XPS One remained niche products and the fate of these computers may be even more in question down the road when notebooks are becoming the dominant computing platform.

However, the Dell XPS One was apparently successful enough to justify a hardware upgrade. Dell increased the size of the LCD to 24”, added an Intel quad-core CPU (Q8200), hard drives with capacities between 320 and 750 GB, 4 GB of memory and an Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT graphics chip. The system is available in midnight gray or pure white, which represents the XPS One 24 (PRODUCT) RED version.

Prices start at $1699. An upgrade integrated to discrete graphics and a larger hard drive costs $300. The flagship is the Windows Vista Ultimate (PRODUCT) RED model, which is priced at $2299.

The 20” models are still available for prices starting $999.
